Total Tracking Laser
Unlike Radar signals, which are highly reflective, laser signals have very poor reflective characteristics. Many of today's laser detectors do not have the high sensitivity necessary to detect laser within a large "field of view." The Vector 940 incorporates Beltronics' best laser detection, which uses twin laser ports to detect energy far outside the main laser beam--including off-axis signals--providing a 360-degree field of view. To be a top performing radar detector, the detector must balance several aspects of performance concurrently, namely: sensitivity, selectivity, quickness, and dynamic range. In this particular situation the Whistler XTR-695SE, I suspect, sniffed out either very weak constant-on Ka or weak instant-on Ka from either behind or from the side road as we proceed under the overpass of an intersecting highway. At the time of the recording, 34.7Ghz Ka IO (instant-on) was heavily being used on this stretch of road. Both though the Beltronics STi-R and the Escort Passport 9500ci are clearly more sensitivity detectors all around, these value-priced Whistlers are quicker in alerting to radar sources, which can make theme appear more sensitive, when they are not necessarily, just quicker. These kinds of performance showings would be similar to each of the three new SE models being introduced to the marketplace: Whister Pro-78 SE, Whistler XTR-690 SE, Whistler XTR-695 SE. The duration of this encounter has included a sufficiently long approach and departure from the alert point to establish a better context of performance. Here is an encounter I had two weeks ago against the Texas DPS. I had already had 4 K-Band encounters before this so I had the camera recording after I got the K-band alert here. The K-band was a false, the Ka obviously was not. The Valentine One was first, followed by the Escort Redline which alerted the "Multiple Signals Detected" message, then the low mounted Beltronics STi-R. The mounting position of a radar detector and it's detection range over hills is shown very well in this video.

Valentine 1 (V1) & Escort Passport 8500 X50 versus Ka-band Speed Camera ("photocop"), 33.8 GHz; Part 3 of 4 The V1 is a current V1.8 with firmware 3.872. The Escort was made in 2006 and is a model without TSR capability (NOTE that newer X50s may perform better with newer firmware versions). This is not meant to be a direct comparison as much as it is to illustrate the difficulty in detecting these relatively new cameras that have been sweeping the nation. In this case, the Escort 8500 X50 would not prevent a driver from a ticket from this type of speed camera, which is ultra low voltage, 33.8 GHz Ka-band, with a very narrow radar spread. The only detectors that I have seen do these 'well' is the V1, Escort Redline and 9500ci, Bel STi Driver and STi R Plus. I have watched Cobra, Whistler, lower end Bel, and K40 models go past these things without any alert whatsoever. When they do alert, it is nothing more than a ticket notifier. These cameras are VERY difficult to detect and this shows why it is worth to save money up for a higher end unit. The warning distance you see with the V1 is as good as it gets. The Escort Redline delivers similar warning distances.

This is a test of the Passsport X50 radar against those sneeky f@#$!K'n multanova cameras. the results are amazing giving almost double the warning mounted vertical and on the last run had a 45sec warning and 640m Please note my radar is switched to auto mute so when initially goes off it goes quieter after few seconds
